The Surface Duo 3: Is Microsoft’s lineup broken by design - PhoneArena Home News You are here The Surface Duo 3: Is Microsoft’s lineup broken by design Microsoft Editorials Published: Apr 11, 2023, 2:09 PM Dzhoro Ivanov 10 This article may contain personal views and opinion from the author. When unfolded, they form an 8.1-inch surface with a 3:2 aspect ratio and total resolution of 2700×1800. But while the Twitter app or messaging would open on the other screen, the keyboard wouldn’t. The Surface Duo is a folio-styled device, with two 5.6-inch OLED displays with a 4:3 aspect ratio. For example, I really liked being able to flip open the top screen and watch a sporting event on the ESPN app, in landscape mode. That uncertainty extended to the context switching between landscape and portrait mode, which altered the interface, but not always. In this case, swapping from one random app to another felt arbitrary, and I never felt confident enough in the controls to trust that the phone understood what I wanted it to do. Yes, in certain scenarios the Duo 2 excelled, such as placing Mail on one screen and the Calendar app on another.īut in many cases, the two apps simply were random pairings, and not complementary. Everything that the review stated is still valid, but I found that over time I just fell out of love with the two screens. I would expect nothing but the same from them if they introduce a single folding display device.Though my review of the Surface Duo 2 was middling, I kept using the device for months afterwards, just so I could fully experience its strengths and weaknesses. For instance, and this baffles me, why is the android always on display removed but a half baked, incredibly limited always on implementation exists hidden away under the clock settings? Did they not consider how superior the duo would be as a bedside device compared to literally any other device on the market because you can keep it in an upright position? I don't think I've seen a single app that has any sort of dynamic behavior in it, hell, microsoft took away features from the Duo that are baked into android for seemingly no reason. Just take flex mode, if you put a folding samsung into a semi-folded position it rearranges the UI, like putting camera controls or a trackpad on the bottom, creating a mini-laptop experience. Samsung has years of foldable experience and has been constantly tweaking and adding folding oriented features. Microsoft's software experience for the Duo barely works correctly to begin with and lacks all but the most basic considerations for its dual screen/foldable nature. Perfect example that one doesn't influence the other. Microsoft Built a very nice Surface Duo 2 even though the XBox Game pass is horribly broken on it. It would potentially help you understand how Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 stands against Microsoft Surface Duo 2 and which one should you buy The current lowest. This is what that new Android group should be working to resolve. It doesn't discount the fact that someone tied with the Surface Group should be working to influence the XBox group to address this issue with that app. XBox group doesn't define the success or failure of any other group, or the quality of any other group's products. 3 Surface Slim Pen 2 shown with Surface Pro 8.
